There's no place like Hope....

Hope Behind Bars

Welcome to the section of Hope Church’s website for Hope Behind Bars!

Hope Behind Bars is a jail ministry created by Kevin Hrebik in Dec. 2009. Kevin’s goal is to become a full time home missionary jail chaplain at the Harris County Jail in Houston. This is the 3rd largest jail in the nation, with 12,000 inmates – but only six full time chaplains. Currently, he has been a volunteer for a year, spending two half days a week ministering to and conducting church services for seven cellblocks of 50-60 men each. His average total attendance (chapel is not mandatory at the jail) is 90 inmates per week.

Harris County has a hiring freeze; thus Kevin’s vision to start his own ministry, and fund it through the sale of a series of books of which he is the author. The first book, The Carpenter’s Shop, was released by Halo Publishing in Dec. 2009. This is the first of 19 planned books, each focused on one of the many images or metaphors of Christ in Scripture. Here is a link to order the book:

Getting the word out about the books will be done primarily through Kevin speaking at various ECC and other churches. The first such message took place on Jan. 3rd at Hope Church. As soon as additional events are scheduled, we will post them here.

Everything you do will directly help Kevin spend more time at the jail. There are four ways you can help:

    Pray for us!
Purchase a book – and extra copies to give to friends or family!
Send a donation (via the church)!
Support us on a monthly basis (any amount will be a huge blessing)!

Just let us know (email address below) if you would like to receive our e-newsletter each month.
Stay tuned as we believe this ministry has been ordained by God and is destined to produce much fruit to His glory.

Sincerely in Christ
Kevin Hrebik
